I’m a digital communications manager and writer specializing in political organizing, non-profit fundraising, and medical/science writing. In my current position, I help women find their power and work together to win better pay, benefits and respect.
Because I have a restless nature and an inveterate curiosity about the world, my former jobs include stints as a human resources officer at an investment bank, a reporter at The Oregonian, a recruiter at Christie’s auction house and a writer at Caltech. My fiction has been featured in The Berkeley Fiction Review and IRIS magazine. I live in Los Angeles with my husband, who is the kindest man I know, and my 11-year-old son who loves to read and constantly makes me laugh.
My full job history is below.
Manage team of communications professionals to drive innovative communications strategies to grow our union. Key accomplishments include:
Launched an innovative Facebook community aimed at organizing long term care workers into union membership. The community is growing at a rate of 400 new members each week and 20% of our members visit our community daily, which is an exceptionally high rate of engagement. Community content is guided by digital tools such as ActionSprout and data analysis in order to maximize reach and move members to take real world action.
Expanded our SMS (text messaging program) to include platforms such as Mobile Commons and peer-to-peer texting via Relay. Since the launch of our SMS program, our union election win rate increased from 50% to 89%. In addition, we have had exceptionally high response rates of up to 50% on peer-to-peer messages to non-member workers.
Launched a digital organizer training program to train staff and member leaders on using digital tools such as Facebook and direct messaging to organize more workers more effectively.
